Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a civil ceremony and religious ceremony?

For Civil Ceremonies
You will have to appear in person at the court to be interviewed and presented with the letter to be taken to Home Affairs to receive your marriage license. You will then visit Home Affairs to acquire your license and then return to the court to present it to the Magistrate/ Magistrate's Assistant. The Magistrate will then appear at the appointed time and location to perform your ceremony which will be non-religious. You will then have to appear in person to the Registry to acquire your marriage certificate/s, but bearing in mind that we are only responsible for the payment of the certificates and NOT for your transfer to the Registry.

For Religious Ceremonies
You will go to home affairs to get your license (included in your package) and a reverend will perform your ceremony once presented with your marriage license and then file for your marriage certificate(s) on your behalf.
